DIY//Floral Belt

Whenever spring comes around I feel like I want to incorporate florals all the time into my wardrobe. I thought this belt would be cute for wearing around during the warmer weather. Maybe even on a floral dress.
Floral on floral...that would be fun.
Supplies: Belt, Leather Flower Pieces, Scissors Glue Gun, Thread & Needle
(To make my floral pieces, I used leather from an old skirt I bought at the thrift store. I painted a small piece of the leather white, used a flower stencil and traced 5 pieces)
1. Thread a small cross in the center of your floral piece
2. Continue to thread through until you have a full center
3. Try on the belt and measure where you want the placement of the flowers to be, I stuck pins in the belt so that I would know the range of where I wanted mine to be.
4. Glue your floral pieces starting from the center out
5. Ready to Wear

DIY//Statement Headband

Hey, I'm back with another hair accessory.  I wanted to make something really spring-y and fun for the Easter holiday. Oh and I especially love that it's such a statement piece...plus this mix of colors just makes me happy. This project was really easy, you just have to be patient between each coat of polish. Much like the enamel bobby pins, the possibilities of color combinations are just endless. My heart is already racing just thinking of a pretty one in mint!
 Supplies
Rhinestones, Headband, Nail Polish, & Glue Gun
1. Paint each rhinestone with color of choice.
 2. Let dry completely if wanting to add another coat
3. Start by adding glue to the center of the headband and attach rhinestone.
4. Repeat until you have your desired pattern
(add a thin strip of felt or cut into circles and add to back of
rhinestone for extra support and a cleaner look)

vvv ready to wear vvv
I tried this on when I only had the pink and orange added to the headband and really liked it with just the two colors but decided to add the yellow in the end. So if you don't want to add as many rhinestones as I did, don't worry, it will still look great. Just have fun with it.

DIY Rhinestone Sparkle Headband

I wanted to share a cute and easy diy for spring now that it's finally around the corner. This involves two of my favorites; a pop of color and something sparkly. I originally wanted to try this headband with a neon green thread but ended up going with a bright orange. I love the way it turned out.

Supplies:
Headband, rhinestones, embroidery thread, glue gun
1. Glue strand of rhinestones to headband
2. Secure thread to headband with a dab of glue and string thread around the rhinestones.
3. Once you get to the other end, apply another dab of glue to secure the thread.
4. Ready to wear!

If You Want Something Do It Yourself: Color Block Tee

I feel like it's been way too long since I've done a diy post, so I'm really happy to be back with one. Since adding a color block blouse into my wardrobe, I felt myself wanting more of it...I may be just a bit late on this trend but I don't care. If you don't care either and want to add some color block to your life you're gonna love this...so easy, fast, and it really gives an your clothing some new life.

1. Turn your tees inside out. I measured 2 inches down from the armhole and made a mark on each side. Draw a line connecting the two markings so you know where to cut.
2. Cut along the line you just drew...repeat steps 1 & 2 for the second shirt.
3. Pin the contrasting tops and bottoms together.
4. Sew together

I think this would be fun if you mixed a solid tee and with a tee that has a fun print.
Let me know if you try it out.

If You Want Something Do It Yourself: Tie Dye Shorts

I've really been into cutoff shorts ever since I made my studded pair and I was looking for some fun summer shorts to wear for the 4th of July. I thought why not just make my own...plus I was wanting to get my hands on something tie dyed this summer. I wanted to post this a bit early just in case you need to find a pair of white pants or shorts...I found white pants for about $2 at the thrift store and made them into cutoff shorts. I used these spray dyes (s-e-i tumble dye) back in school and they were so easy to use and a great alternative to using actual fabric dye that I went ahead and purchased them for this project.

I really love the way these shorts turned out and if you want them too...

Here's how to do it yourself:

Gather parts of your shorts and tie them. The directions on the bottle recommended that it was best for the fabric to be wet when doing tie dye so I followed and ran them under water until the shorts were damp.

Begin to spray your dye in the areas you want.

I used red on top and blue on the bottom, leaving the middle section alone.

Take out the rubber bands, let them air dry, and then put them in the dryer for about 20 minutes.

All done & ready to wear!

If You Want Something Do It Yourself: Galaxy Collar

Am I the only one who has been loving all the different collars that have been in trend lately? Yeah, I didn't think so. I've seen everything from studded, sequined, pearled, dip dyed...I think the possibilities are endless with what you can do. I've been wanting to incorporate a galaxy print into my wardrobe somehow but haven't found just what I'm looking yet. In the meantime I thought it would be fun to apply it to one of the hottest trends of the moment.

If you want one too, here's how to do it yourself:

1. sponge on white paint, leave the edge black
2. Add your purple paint, I used the sponge as well as the brush
3. Mix in your blue with the white and purple
4. This isn't on the supplies photo but you will need a tooth brush.
Dip in paint and flick to get white specs...this will look like distant stars
5. Use your brush to randomly paint white dots (stars) and x's (twilight stars) to your collar
6. Sew on your ribbon with needle and thread

I used felt and did a peter pan collar but if you have an old black button up with a collar at home, I think a galaxy effect on that would be just as awesome.

Make it Better Mondays: Neon Stripe Belt

Skirt: Target, Skirt Thrifted, Wedges: Thrifted Aldo, Belt: DIY

Within the past year belts have become one of my favorite accessories. I find that I'm constantly cinching in my waist and love having different styles to really make a statement. This skinny belt, that I'm sure most of you probably have somewhere in your closet too,  was easily transformed with just a bit of polish. I love that by adding a simple bright stripe, this belt adds a fun pop of color and knotting up the belt creates a really pretty line.

Here's how to Make it Better:

1. Tape off the area of your belt that doesn't need to be painted
2. Paint your belt with polish of choice...let 1st coat dry, then apply a 2nd
3. Take off tape
4. Ready to wear...pair it with everything and have fun.

Make it Better Mondays: Embellished Brooches

Tank: Thrifted, Skirt: Thrifted, Heels: Rebecca Minkoff, Brooches: DIY

Hey lovelies, I hope you all had a great weekend. I had the weekend off and celebrated my anniversary  pretty much the entire time...enjoyed every minute of it.

I wanted to start off this week with a new series on the blog. So I present to you, Make it Better Mondays: a feature that will focus on taking something old you may already own and finding a way to give it a new life in your wardrobe.

The brooches on my tank are from a shirt I found at the thrift store sometime last week. The previous owner had cut holes all along the side seams and ruined the shirt but I fell for the embellishments that were on the shoulders. I knew it would be simple enough to turn them into brooches that I could pin and have fun with.

Here's How to Make it Better
_____________________________________________________________________________

1. Supplies: Embellishment, felt, scissors, glue gun, pins
2. Cut off embellishment from shirt
3. Attach the pins with glue and place felt on top to hold it all together
4. Pin your new brooch & wear!

If You Want Something Do It Yourself: Wrap Bracelet

I bought a bunch of zippers a few years ago in hopes of using them for some kind of project. I put them away and sort of just forgot about them until this weekend. It's been raining a lot the past few days keeping me indoors so I decided to be a bit crafty and made this bracelet. I liked the look of the teeth as an edging so I ripped the zipper apart and because I always love something a bit embellished, I added these studs to it. If you want one too, here's how to do it yourself.

1. Push stud through center of zipper
2. Place each stud about an inch apart, I started from the center and worked my way out
3. Place string on zipper and glue down in the middle for both sides
4. Glue down edge of zipper to wrap around string for both sides
5. On one side cut the string shorter & make a loop by creating a knot and glue the ends of the string together. The other side will tie through into a bow.
That's it, your bracelet is ready to wear!
